Secrets

It’s the nature of humanity to have secrets. Something socially despicable like pornography, adultery, or theft is the common fodder of modern-day secrets, but we forget that secrets can be actually considered to be wonderful things. A secret engagement ring, a secret kiss in the corner of a darkened room, a secret song, special only to two people; these are the things that we forget when discussing secrets. I remember the grade-school rhyme, “Secrets, Secrets are no fun, unless they’re shared with everyone.” Even as a child, I knew that some secrets are never meant to be told, despite what the other children chant at recess. So, my secrets were kept safe, locked in memories, safe from prying eyes. But others are not so fortunate. Others are constantly reminded of their mistakes, their secrets scream out to the world to be noticed. So, they do everything in their power to keep them hidden, locking away everything undesirable and throwing away the key. However, things kept under lock and key may stay hidden for a time, but everything eventually comes to light. Especially our secrets.
But what if we had a chance to change it? Go back, reverse our actions, make something better, pleasing, change our lives so those secrets have no hold over us, what if that were possible? I know you don’t believe it, I scarcely believed it myself, but the truth of the matter is, I found out a secret. I still hadn’t decided if this secret was to be wonderful or something so maddeningly nightmarish, it was worthy of serving eternity in solitude.
But for good or for evil, this particular secret, has the power to change everything.
